Gay Day at the De Efteling Amusement Park

More and more events have been organizing special days welcoming GLBT men and women. The most well-known example in the Netherlands is the Pink Monday at the Tilburg fair, attracting a smashing 100,000 gay and lesbian man and women and their friends from all over the Netherlands and beyond The annual four day walking event that takes place in Nijmegen, attracting over 40,000 hikers, welcomes many GLBT men and women on its second day.

Up to date there has been no official gay day in a Dutch amusement park, contrary to Phantasialand near Cologne or Disney World in Paris and in Orlando. Alfred Verhoeven, who is the initiator of this special day, says it is about time that the Netherland keeps us with this trend.

“We expect about five thousand participants for GayDay@Efteling”, Verhoeven adds. “As the De Efteling will be open for everyone that day we expect that many people will undoubtedly be attracted to the De Efteling that day and we will see the same high spirits as seen during Pink Monday. We ask participants to wear a piece of red garment so that they are easy to recognize.

5,000 tickets will be available and bookings can be made online: www.gaydayefteling.nl. The site includes further information on this special day.

The De Efteling is pleased to welcome so many GLBT guests and their friends on June 11. The park welcomes guests and groups for a very special day out 365 days a year. “We are delighted to hear that this group has chosen our park for its visit on June 11.”
